Caustic chemicals induce deep dermal trauma, forcing the skin to form a scab that expels tattoo pigment during healing.
Strong chemical solutions, acidic or alkaline, are tattooed into the skin. This process intentionally damages tissue, leading to scab formation and pigment expulsion as the skin attempts to heal.
The method involves the direct application or tattooing of highly concentrated acidic (e.g., glycolic, lactic, salicylic acid) or alkaline (e.g., calcium oxide, zinc oxide) solutions into the dermal layer. This induces a caustic chemical burn, causing necrosis of skin cells and surrounding tissue. The body's natural wound healing response then initiates the formation of a deep scab, which, upon detachment, is intended to physically expel the embedded tattoo pigment. This process relies on tissue destruction rather than molecular breakdown of ink.
