- For pain, take acetaminophen (Tylenol), not ibuprofen
- Gently massage the area after a few days if instructed by your provider to help with lumpiness.
- No aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil or vitamin E for a few days, if your doctor agrees
- Sleep with your head raised for the first few nights
- Swelling is the most notable side effect, peaking within 24-48 hours and gradually subsiding over a week or more. Tenderness, numbness, and bruising are also common, resolving within 1-2 weeks. A temporary firmness or lumpiness may be felt as the body processes the treated fat. Results start to show in 4–6 weeks.

How it works, and common myths

Deoxycholic acid chemically disrupts fat cell membranes, leading to their permanent breakdown and natural elimination.

A little more technical

The treatment uses a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a bile salt, to disrupt and destroy the cell membrane of fat cells (adipocytes), leading to their permanent removal by the body's natural processes.

The active ingredient, deoxycholic acid, is a cytolytic agent. When injected into subcutaneous adipose tissue, it disrupts the cell membrane of adipocytes, causing adipocytolysis (the physical destruction of fat cells). This provokes a localized inflammatory response, where macrophages are recruited to clear the cellular debris and lipids, which are then processed and eliminated by the body's natural metabolic pathways.

Material: Deoxycholic Acid; A synthetic version of a naturally occurring molecule in your gut that specifically breaks down and absorbs dietary fat.
Mechanism category: Adipocyte Lysis; Physically destroys the cell membrane of the fat cell. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat.
