- Stop aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and vitamin E, if your doctor agrees
- Arrange a ride home and someone to help you for the first night
- Undergo a complete eye examination and share your full medical history.
- Stop smoking for 1 month before

- Don't touch, rub or press the area
- No hard exercise or heavy lifting for 2 weeks
- Wear dark sunglasses to protect your eyes from sun and wind.

- No swimming or baths for several weeks
- Go to all follow-up visits
- The first 48 hours involve managing swelling with cold compresses and keeping the head elevated. Bruising and swelling are most prominent for the first 1-2 weeks. Stitches are typically removed within 2-7 days. Most people feel comfortable returning to work and social activities after 10-14 days. Full healing, with final scar maturation and resolution of subtle swelling, can take several months.

How it works, and common myths

Removing extra skin and moving fat can make the eyelid look smoother.

A little more technical

A surgeon makes precise incisions within the natural creases of the eyelids to remove or reposition excess skin, muscle, and fat before closing the incisions with very fine stitches.

The procedure involves the surgical excision and/or repositioning of excess tissue, including skin, orbicularis oculi muscle, and orbital fat, from the upper or lower eyelids to address dermatochalasis and steatoblepharon.

Technique: Excess Skin Excision; Surgically removes the hooded, inelastic skin resting on the upper eyelashes to restore a bright, open eye shape.
Mechanism category: Fat Pad Repositioning; Instead of just removing under-eye fat (which can cause hollowing), modern techniques reposition the fat to smooth the transition between the eye and cheek.
