Alkaline reducers break and reform the disulfide bonds within lash keratin, setting them into a new, curled configuration.
Lash lifts chemically alter the protein structure of natural eyelashes using alkaline reducers or aminothiols to break and reform disulfide bonds, setting them into a curled shape.
Lash lift solutions, typically containing alkaline reducers like ammonium thioglycolate or thioglycolic acid, or aminothiols such as cysteamine hydrochloride, chemically break and then reform the disulfide bonds within the keratin structure of the eyelashes. This allows the lashes to be molded into a new, curled shape around a silicone rod or shield, which is then fixed by a neutralizing solution.
