A sclerosant solution irritates the vein lining, causing it to collapse and be naturally absorbed by the body.
A specialized solution is gently injected into the vein. This encourages the inner lining to close, allowing the vein to be naturally absorbed by the body.
The injected sclerosant, a detergent or osmotic agent, damages the endothelial lining of the targeted blood vessel. This initiates an inflammatory response, leading to thrombus formation and subsequent endofibrosis, which occludes the vessel. The fibrosed vein is then gradually resorbed by the body's natural processes.
